LOVECHILD OF CHICAGO HOUSE

JUSTY is a Trinidadian-American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and founder of HBX Productions. Based in Chicago, they are, in every sense, a lovechild of the city’s House music legacy: their parents met at The Warehouse in the late 1980s, where their father, House-funk artist Brian J. Garnett performed with his band Porschealack.

After losing both parents before age three, Justy was raised by their grandparents, who used music as a lifeline and a bridge to ancestry. By 17, Justy was classically trained across seven instruments and had earned six national and international piano awards through The American College of Musicians.

Early adulthood sent them traveling across the U.S., Europe, and the Caribbean, where time living in Trinidad — their homeland — reaffirmed their purpose as an artist. Justy returned to Chicago in 2014, releasing their debut EP the same year and steadily building a distinct sound rooted in house, soul, R&B, Trinidadian rhythms, and orchestral elements.

They have since released genre-spanning projects including the 2019 reggae-inflected project RESET and the dance-soaked single “Blue Dreaming,” alongside music videos, residencies, and festival appearances. A dedicated community builder, JUSTY also created and hosted the 2020 podcast Conversation Z, amplifying youth voices during the presidential election and reaching listeners across 480+ cities worldwide.

In 2022, they were nominated for Best Pop Artist by the Chicago Reader and awarded a Dark Matter Artist Residency. Their singles “HANDS” (2022) and “HEY YOU” (2023), co-produced with Hush Hush, marked a new creative era leading into their most ambitious work to date. They have since co-released several remixes with Hush Hush, including a new remix to HEY YOU which releases on November 1, 2025.

On October 10, 2025, JUSTY released LOVECHILD — a multiyear concept album and visual project honoring the mythic love and loss of their parents and the enduring impact of the HIV/AIDS epidemic on Black and queer families. The album was recorded at the legendary RaxTrax Recording Studios in Chicago and produced by Sean McKenzie. Alongside the album, Justy premiered the short film BOTS, directed by Jonathan Woods, solidifying their arrival as a multidisciplinary storyteller building worlds where legacy, liberation, and joy converge. Justy appears alongside featured artist Muso, and co-stars Stephen Wilkes, Paige Brown, and Camille Johnson.

In addition to their creative work, Justy is the Founder and CEO of HBX Productions — a Chicago-based creative house and event production company bridging art, community, and celebration. Rooted in legacy, independence, and access for emerging artists, HBX produces milestone experiences, performance events, and multimedia projects while reinvesting in the creative ecosystem. Through HBX, Justy is building a platform where culture-makers are resourced, audiences are moved, and artistry and community rise together.
